Awnings
For those who use awnings when camping, there are a few
tips that could be helpful in ensuring that the awnings work safely
and properly.
These tips include:
• At the beginning of each camping season, it is wise to check
the top and bottom bracket screws on the awnings just to make sure they
are tight.
• If the handles on the awnings are tight, it may be best to
spray them with silicone spray. This process may need to be repeated
from time to time. It is also possible that the bottom bracket release
tabs and support arms will need to be sprayed.
• One of the main ways that the lives of awnings can be extended
is simply to keep them clean. Follow the cleaning schedule and instructions
offered when you purchase the awning.
• If water begins to seep behind the rail of the awning in wet
weather, check the rail to see if it includes any loose screws or peeled
sealant.
• In order to make the awning easier to move and operate, doing
something as simple as rubbing candle wax on all sliding surfaces can
assist you in this.
• Roll up awnings if you are expecting prolonged periods of rain
or heavy winds and you will not be around. Most manufacturers will not
offer a warranty on damage cause by inclement weather.
• Be careful to make sure that before the entry door to a camper
is opened that the RV is extended to a height high enough to avoid being
hit.
Doing these simple things can help ensure that you will be able to
keep your awnings in good shape and use them often throughout the camping
season.
