Awnings FAQs

What is the best way to wash the fabric on an awning?
If your awning is made from vinyl or cloth, you are likely going to want to make sure that you clean it often. Aside from the fact that a clean awning simply looks better, it also is important because a dirty awning can cause damage that might be irreversible. Washing the fabric is not very difficult. The best first step is to simply sweep off any loose dirt or debris that is on the awning. After you have done this, the second thing you should do is get some mild soap and wash the fabric off. Do not use a soap that is harsh because it could prove to be harmful for the fabric. Letting the soap set in a little bit is helpful because it allows for a deeper clean. When rinsing, be sure that you get all of the soap off.

I’ve heard that window awnings can actually save me money. How does that work?
It is true that indirectly window awnings can help save a home or business owner money. The way this works is really pretty simple. Because large windows tend to draw in a lot of sunlight, homes that have these kinds of windows are often heated to higher than normal temperatures thanks to the increased level of sunlight. But if the home or business owner installs window awnings on top of the larger windows, he or she will be able to block out a lot of the sun. In turn, this will reduce the temperature in the home which will then require the air conditioner to use less energy. This final result is what will ultimately save you money.

Is it difficult to deal with retractable awnings?
While opening and closing retractable awnings is not exactly difficult, it is not something that most feel comfortable with until they have done it a few times. This is why it is recommended that a person who owns an awning like this should practice opening and closing them in nice weather a few times until they feel comfortable with it. It is unwise to wait for a day when there is bad weather and then try to deal with the awning for the first time.
